The Third Grade Team

Friday, January 12, 2018

We are starting off the New Year with a joint Writing and Science project.
Each student will choose two landforms in class to research, write, and model. All the research and writing will take place here at school. The take home portion will be to make a salt dough model of both landforms. Students may use any recipe for the dough but we are including one that does not require baking. Each student will receive two grades for this project- one in Writing and one in Science. The paper copy will include a rubric for grading purposes.
The project will be due January 25, 2018.

Here is a recipe for the salt dough:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 teaspoons cooking oil
1 cup water
-Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl; knead until a dough like texture is achieved. *you may need to add a little more water or flour to get a workable dough*
-Allow model to air dry (1-2 days) before painting.

If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask your child's teacher. Have fun exploring the wonderful landforms our planet has to offer!
