Grading Policy

Our campus grading policy includes provisions for the classroom teacher to assign a grade that reflects the student’s relative mastery of an assignment.  Students will be given a reasonable opportunity to retake tests for which the student received a failing grade.  The grade issued by a classroom teacher is final and may not be changed unless the grade is arbitrary, erroneous, or not consistent with stated policy.  We hope the explanation of grading procedures provides you an understanding of how your child’s grade is determined.  You may also refer to the MISD Elementary Student Handbook.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need additional clarification.

Grading Policy for ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science will be changed to 70% daily work/class work, and 30% tests. This information was changed in the student handbook.

Test/Projects are considered
Ø  Unit Assessments, 6 Weeks Tests, Cumulative Assessments
Ø  Projects are considered assignments completed over an extended period of time

* Minimum Grades ELA and Math - 12 grades per 6 weeks with a minimum of 2 grades per week.

*Minimum Grades in Science and Social Studies - 6 grades plus an assessment with a minimum of one (1) grade per week.

Redo Policy: Failing grade on tests can be redone, for a maximum of a 70. Alternate test over same material can/may be given.  Daily work can be redone as a part of the reteaching process but grade will not be raised so that true educational need is reflected.

Curriculum Based Assessments (CBA)Are designed to measure mastery of the curriculum in a short period of time.  They are designed to cover material that has been taught to mastery.  Grades will be recorded as a test grade.

District Benchmarks:  A benchmark will be given during the year. They will be formatted like the state assessment and cover the full curriculum for that grade level. No grade will be recorded. The data will be used to inform instruction.

Daily Assignments:  Daily assignments will need to be completed in the classroom. All daily assignments less than 70 need be Corrected and Returned Signed (CARS) to reinforce the concept.  However, their daily grade does not change.
